The Pits!
As some may know i’m not only a Graphic Designer but I also excavate Pleistocene Era Megafauna and the like at the La Brea Tar Pits. This is honestly one of the coolest things i’ve ever done and probably will ever do in my life and i’m absolutely thrilled that i’ve been given the opportunity to do this every week!
I’m learning so much, working muscles in my body I didn’t even know existed and making new friends along the way.
What does this have to do with Design you ask?
Well yesterday while I was chipping away (literally with a hammer and chisel) my supervisor mentioned how great I was at attention to detail and making sure the area I was working on was meticulously squared off and sheared properly. This made me stop and think about the relation of what I was doing excavating to what I do for design.
You got it… Attention to detail! I’m so incredibly meticulous with my design work (also maybe a little OCD at times) that it is now second nature for me to be really meticulous in so many different facets of life, and to make sure i’m always doing the job to the best of my ability no matter what.
Back in the day when I was doing Print Production for a globally recognized food packaging company the attention to detail could mean the difference between millions of dollars, that also comes in to play when excavating 10-55 thousand year old fossils, you MUST be careful, meticulous and speak up when you find something!
